Abstract

Indian technological performance in the 1880s, as well as later, differed dramatically from the Japanese case. Given the initial, quite similar, endowment, a similar type of labour-using change would have been expected. Table 4.1 presents an aggregate picture of the changes that did, in fact, occur.
