Abstract

Our objective in this study was to determine the nature of the industrial relations system that has developed in Nigeria. The approach has been to trace and examine critically that development within a socioeconomic and political framework. By so doing, we have been able to establish that the Nigerian industrial relations system is a product of the country’s history and environment. These peculiar circumstances influenced the move away from the imposed voluntaristic system of industrial relations to one that is production-oriented and integrative in approach. In this final chapter we shall summarise the main findings of the study and evaluate the current system in the light of Nigeria’s economic development plans and labour policy.
