Private Sources of International Finance for LDCs

Abstract

In addition to the IMF, there are various other sources of finance available to LDCs. Finance may be borrowed either officially, from foreign governments and international organisations, or privately, through international capital markets. Private borrowing may be in the form of bond issues or shorter-term credits. A certain proportion of short-term credit will be associated with trade and will be in the form of suppliers’ credit, but a further source of private finance arises out of commercial borrowing from foreign banks, primarily operating through the Eurocurrency market.
