Abstract

We should, at this early point, try to define the terms ‘electronic commerce’. ‘Internet shopping’, ‘online shopping’, ‘non-store retailing’, ‘virtual shopping’ and ‘cyber-shopping’ are terms frequently used today in the retail and shopping centre industries. Generally, the usual discussion evolves around shopping which takes place on the Internet, including the World Wide Web, often called simply the Web. Television networks as an addition to systems which allow orders through fax links also fall within the realms of electronic commerce, but shopping on the Internet probably, more than any other, symbolises the concept.
