Abstract

If environmental protection is to become an integrated part of corporate strategy, organizational measures must be taken. These relate not only to formal organizational structures and the routines they give rise to, but also to the creation of specialist positions, for example that of the environmental protection officer, and to the education and training of the employees themselves. Most centrally, we are concerned in this chapter with how organizations learn to deal with new challenges. With the aid of empirical results, we will show the extent to which environmental thinking has already been absorbed into fundamental organizational forms as well as into work and production processes.
