Abstract

In Chapter 1 we saw how the nineteenth century was the battlefield between the utilitarian values of Bentham and the humanistic values of Coleridge, Ruskin and others. In Chapter 2 we showed how the spirit of Eton, its organisation and curriculum, were inherently anti-utilitarian. In this chapter we shall trace the influence of King’s, its values and its organisation, on Keynes, who attended that college between 1902 and 1905.
