The Declining Construction Sector

Abstract

With the completion of the major infrastructural projects, new construction activities in the GCC region recorded a sizeable decline in the last few years. After reaching a peak of $37.5 billion in 1982, the value of contracts awarded in the six Gulf countries dropped to an estimated $15.8 billion in 1985 and looks set to continue downwards.
