Abstract

It is important to focus attention on direct foreign investment in Latin America, because this topic has long been overshadowed by numerous financial schemes when discussing solutions to the present debt crisis in Latin America. This significance has been echoed by, among others, President Reagan in a recent meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), when he said that countries will have to rely less on external debt, and more on direct private investment, both foreign and domestic.
