Disinflation

Abstract

The years 1982–4 will enter the economic history books as the period of disinflation. The postwar boom ended in 1973 and had inevitably driven up the prices of goods and resources. But it took nearly another decade, including two bouts of double-digit inflation, before disinflation took over to set the stage for another phase of world development.1
