The European Coal and Steel Community and Euratom

Abstract

The European Coal and Steel Community (E.C.S.C.) set up in 1952, was the pioneer of European integration. It applied the Community method to the coal and steel industries as a first step towards integration of the economy as a whole. A decision to merge the executives of the E.C.S.C. and Euratom with the E.E.C. came into effect on 1 July 1967.
