Abstract

Millions of television viewers from around the world have watched the bright blue ball, known as earth, from the vastness of space. This novel and thrilling experience has changed many attitudes and reinforced others. It has influenced the course of affairs both from a practical or applied standpoint and from a philosophical or conceptual standpoint. The viewing of earth from afar symbolises a change in the way in which man views himself and his destiny in regard to the rest of his environment on the planet earth. This conceptual change has meaning for the way in which we view development.
