Abstract

A feature of the rehabilitation of Western Europe’s currencies after the Second World War was that, nearly up to the end of the 1950s, monetary and financial integration trailed behind trade integration. The tendency was to liberalise payments only to the extent implied by the measures of trade liberalisation.
