Abstract

This chapter will describe different theories and practices related to diversity and how those theories and practices have shaped the need for DQ. There are lots of theories that concern race such as critical race theory; however, there are few that deal directly with diversity. This is part of the confusion in the workplace caused by the introduction of the term “diversity.” When most individuals hear the term “diversity,” they quickly deduce that it means race, and maybe it should, but it does not mean race in many organizations.
