Abstract

The fact that the policy goal of having energy that is clean, secure, and affordable is known in Great Britain as the trilemma is some testament to the fact that the science of economics has not helped us sufficiently address the policy problem. Similarly the political economic framework has so far failed us. Mitchell (2008) states: “The constraints of the political paradigm are the central reason why the UK has been so poor in delivering a sustainable energy system.”
