Abstract

This chapter aims to provide a general picture of international business development in East Asia. The cultural differences have been presented in terms of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. The role of boundary spanners has been identified, and both organizational-level and individual-level investigations are needed. The following chapters will elaborate on this further from an empirical perspective. This study examines executive staffing policies of Overseas Chinese firms in Japan. Japan is an interesting location for studying staffing in MNCs affiliates, as many MNCs expanded their activities in Japan after World War II.
