Abstract

Broadly speaking, a society’s physical, organizational makeup is divided into two broad segments—mainstream organizations and organizations at the periphery of the mainstream, an area populated by organizations we call marginals. When viewed systemically, organizations in both segments combine to form a patchwork environment defined by various social and behavioral interactions. Some of these interactions are defined by economic transactions; others may be aggressive, supportive, destructive or any number of other behavioral interchanges. It’s a dynamic environment driven by the decisions and choices people make.
