Abstract

The chapter on the UK looks at the historical development of regulation over consumer credit before addressing the issue offinancial inclusion. It looks at the impact of a highly indebted population in a country hit by recession, at the growth of payday lending, particularly from US companies, and at the buildup of alternative, ethicalfinance from credit unions to CDFIs.
