Abstract

Many different disciplines are involved with the management of information systems (MIS). The field of information technology requires a wide range of leadership skills. In fact, management science, software engineering, communications, organizational theory, information theory, and several other disciplines in “sociology and behavior sciences have made contributions to the field of information systems” (Ahituv, Neumann, & Riley, 1994, p. 4). Business decision makers must look beyond the traditional approaches of the MIS departments when making decisions on information systems in their organizations. This chapter describes some essentials, principles, suggestions, and concepts that managers need to consider when implementing information system projects.
