Abstract

Technology using computer hardware and software consisting of computer information system programs, databases, networks, and the Internet is essential for providing support to government business operations, public service organizations, and private sector organizations for different kinds of services. Computer information systems assist organizations strategically in how employees accomplish their work, which is important for organizational success. Information systems are important when you consider that the US government provides various types of services to more than 315 million people in 50 states, 3,031 counties, 19,522 municipalities, and 16,364 towns or townships (“Federal, State, and Local Governments,” 2012). In 2002, US counties spent 183.2 billion dollars on service delivery (Benton et al., 2007). Governments in many countries are just as reliant on technology for supporting their business strategies.
