The Essential Changes

Abstract

Of course, none of this knowledge and understanding existed at the time when the foundation of our economic system was created. At that time the only science was Newtonian physics, which had recently emerged. There was no theory of living systems, no statistical theory, no psychology, and in particular no science of (human) consciousness. It is therefore understandable how and why economics came to have the reductionist, materialistic and mechanistic foundation that it does. However it is not rational, in relation to humankind, that in the face of this knowledge the system remains grounded in such a partial and limited understanding.
