Abstract

This chapter examines union responses to the socio-political and economic changes described in Chapter 4. The chapter is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the unions’ responses to economic and political changes. The second part then addresses the problems inherent in the introduction of legal reforms under the Obasanjo civil administration of 1999–2007. Obasanjo introduced a bill that led to major amendments in the Trade Union Act and which allowed, for the first time in almost three decades, the existence of multiple labour centres.
