The Future of Workshift

Abstract

Up to this point in our book, we have focused on the past and how a few organizations identified that their employees began to work differently, and illustrated ways in which those organizations responded to support those changes and leverage benefits of the new ways of working. In this chapter, we turn our attention to the future and the growing trend of Workshift by looking ahead. From our study of organizations that are expanding their acceptance of employees becoming more mobile and working more flexibly, we share examples of how cities are embracing it as a talent acquisition and economic development strategy, a way to augment civic innovation, and how some companies are developing new business models to keep up with the disruptive and dynamic changes in the market.
