Abstract

Ever since the Phoenicians and the Sumerians developed the basic alphabet, around 3000 bc, there has been an endeavor to improve communications between fellow human beings especially in terms of sending communications over some distances. We know that the Greeks used homing pigeons as early as 776 bc to send information to the Athenians regarding the winners of various events at the Olympic Games of that year. Much afterward, carrier pigeons were quite extensively and effectively used for carrying messages from battlefields in both the world wars.
