Abstract

This chapter reviews the major changes that have taken place in the theoretical approaches that economists have used to understand the process of economic growth and development, and sets out a broad conceptual framework for understanding the multidimensional aspects of comparative economic development in East Asia and Latin America that is used to organize the discussion in the remainder of the book.
