Abstract

Procrastination is irrational! It may be comfortable in the short term but it is destructive in the long term. The aim of this book is to provide insights into why leaders delay decisions. Knowing why can help you as a leader to identify your own hesitations, to explain it and hopefully eliminate it. To do this, first of all, you need to be aware whether or not you have a habit of delaying decisions. To facilitate this task I have developed the ‘Leadership on Hold’ (LH)-survey (© Dr. David De Cremer). This survey allows you to identify whether (a) you score high on individual factors that can determine whether you delay decisions or not, and (b) you have to make decisions within a context that facilitates delaying decisions. To achieve this purpose the survey consists of two parts. In the first part we look at the degree to which you have an innate inclination to delay decisions (referred to as the individual) whereas in the second part (referred to as the context) we look at whether specific circumstances are present that can facilitate delay of decisions.
