Abstract

Literature on the influence of information and communication technology (ICT) on the management of firms first focused on its potential to generate competitive advantages. Some authors even promoted the ‘magic bullet’ theory that the wonder weapon I CT even fires itself. However, this basically proved to be an illusion and empirical studies provided evidence that ICT can contribute to the generation of competitive advantage but only in the context of other organizational resources.
