Technology and Industrialization: a Strategy for Development

Abstract

A general distinction between the TW and the FW is the identification of the former with a predominantly agricultural economy and of the latter with industrialization. However, over a period of time much change has taken place, rendering such categorization less relevant and leading us to search for greater refinement in our analysis. The current pace of economic and technical change has led some analysts to forecast that both China and India will join the United States and Japan as the most powerful economies in the world. Notwithstanding this prediction, one has to accept the fact that industrialized economies have greater capability to use science and technology to manipulate their physical and social environment. Apart from possessing lesser capability to use science and technology for development, TW countries tend to be more prone to environmental pressures. Meanwhile the gap between and within countries is growing.
