Abstract

Earlier chapters have indicated the range and variety of conflicts arising among commercial development, community social life and the natural environment. All of these experiences can be grouped under the much-criticised trend of globalisation. Methods of Western corporations are adopted in developing countries even where local businesses drive change. A critical function of interlinking international standards, business, social and environmental development is the discrete set of institutions and processes summarised in the phrase ‘environmental diplomacy’.
