Introduction to Part I — Setting a Research Agenda for an Emerging Field

Abstract

Social entrepreneurship (SE) broadly understood as a practice that aims at social change has a long heritage; however it has only recently attracted the interest of researchers. Consequently, many of the issues arising in this book — and in Part I in particular — are typical of any emerging field of inquiry: the need to draw boundaries so as to delimit scope and clarify whether it is an independent field of research; and the need to identify the different levels of analysis, disciplines, theoretical lenses and methods for studying the phenomenon.
