Why Factor Analysis?

Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to define why factor analysis has been used for measuring corporate performance in the context of privatisation. Measuring corporate performance is complex and controversial, with different theories suggesting different approaches. The most widely used approach is the neo-classical, present in nearly all university textbooks for several decades (Parker, 1998). This approach relies on some strong assumptions such as perfect competition, no externalities in the market and constant returns to scale, and it has been subject to the Cambridge capital critique.
