Abstract

The rapid expansion of offshore outsourcing is the key characteristic of the current process of economic globalization. As production processes become increasingly fragmented across national borders, companies source abroad parts and services they used to produce in-house, at home. The ramifications of globalized production, especially as it moves into the field of IT-enabled services, are the subject of growing concern. On the one hand, the globalization of production offers new opportunities for economic growth, development, and human well-being. But, on the other hand, it poses fundamental challenges, as some countries and groups of people will benefit more than others, some will benefit at the expense of others, and some may simply lose out.
