Abstract

Mankind has used the power of organization in the form of a governmental/religious hierarchy as far back as the days of the pyramids in Egypt. Individuals could not rival such a formidable force derived from collective effort. The issue concerned the need for large amounts of manual labor unavailable in another form for the Egyptians. With no electric cranes or bulldozers at hand, the pharaohs pressed the slave population into service.
