Abstract

The previous chapter elucidated the process of change in rice harvesting contracts in East Laguna Village through interactions between community relations and market forces. Although changes in the conditions of the wide labour market have been a major influence on the evolution of harvesting labour contracts within the village, the linkage of villagers with agents in external markets was not analyzed explicitly. In contrast, with a specific focus on the relationship of villagers with outside market agents, this chapter traces the channels of rice marketing from the farm gate in East Laguna Village to consumers.
