Abstract

In this chapter, we focus on the second stage of the strategic implementation process wherein we consider the knowledge we gained in the first stage (Chapter 1) and begin to sort through it as we form favourable or unfavourable attitudes towards certain new technologies, business models and other innovations. In this chapter we will explore several concepts and tools for technology planning, analysis and selection as we continue to explore innovations that enable global enterprise. We will also cover scenario development and analysis related to new technology. This will allow us to look at technologies, business models and other innovations that are on the horizon and assess which of these will best fit within our organisations or determine what needs to be changed so these innovations will fit. Ultimately we will be better able to anticipate the emergence of strategic opportunities that will give our organisations a competitive advantage. This initial sorting of options and opportunities is critical as we prepare to make our strategic decisions (covered in Chapter 3).
