Abstract

China initiated its market-oriented economic reform in 1978. The success of the reform is evident: in the three decades since its implementation, China’s economy grew at an average of 9 percent per year. A vital part of the economic reform is known as the industrial reform, which gradually gave state enterprises autonomy and reduced government intervention in enterprises. The reform touched on many aspects of corporate governance in state enterprises.
