Abstract

Paul Warwick Thompson is the director of the Smithonian's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, which he joined after serving as the director of the Design Museum in London. Born and educated in the United Kingdom, he started as a scriptwriter and researcher for the Design Council, a government organization promoting design in British industry. He is the first non-American to serve as director in Cooper-Hewitt's history, where his responsibilities are the organization of industrial design exhibits. His aspiration is to capture the imagination and create a long-ranging interest in industrial design among an audience of all ages and walks of life.
