Abstract

Politicians, journalists, writers and sometimes even representatives of trade unions and economists accuse the European Union of creating a ‘superstate’, a sort of centralized and spendthrift ‘welfare state’ whose rules and actions tend to merge and homogenize identities, traditions and national, regional and local features.
