Abstract

Of all the cases explored in this book the businesses based in the United States were the youngest, due to the more recent migration patterns of the community. The cases from the States illustrate the challenges faced by family businesses during the earlier stages of business formation and development. Unlike the Kenyan and British businesses these cases had not yet experienced inter-generational transition, however their start-up processes have required the involvement of both generations. The discussion that unfolds will highlight conflicting expectations of whether respondents expect these businesses to develop and become dynasties.
