Abstract

Keynes’s observation concerning frenzied political leaders distilling their wisdom from academic scribblers of an earlier period has often been quoted. Many cases can be adduced which fit this thesis and many political leaders could be cited who distill their wisdom from other sources. Academics do hope to be at least read if not each to spawn a meliorative political movement. Karl Marx was certainly an academic scribbler as well as being a political activist and pamphleteer. There is no doubt that his journalism and pamphleteering reflected his academic scribbling and the fact that his scholarly opus was called Capital is hugely significant.
