Seven lessons for appraisal

Abstract

Yes, it’s true that everybody hates the appraisal process. Well, except those who invented it, we assume. All those forms. The bullying HR people demanding that they are completed in a particular way at a particular time. So, often appraiser and appraisee conspire to fulfill the letter, but not the spirit, of the law. It is a bureaucratic chore, not a meaningful process. Paradoxically, what has been designed to improve management only makes it worse, and it gives both management and HR a bad name.
