Abstract

When reviewing the development or characteristics of the Spanish financial system, as in various chapters of this volume, one essential point to note is the high level of penetration of banking services in Spain. In fact, credit institutions play a fundamental role in channeling financial flows in the Spanish economy: traditional banking products, such as deposits, are still the main savings vehicle for households, and commercial loans are still the main source of borrowing for companies and households.
