Abstract

If organizations want high performance from their employees, should they focus on pressure management or energy management? Traditionally, the focus of stress management has been on the negative elements of the working environment, helping employers to focus on the underlying causes and implementing strategies to aid their prevention either at an individual and/or an organizational level. These strategies are often multidimensional, targeting cognitive ability. The deployment of technology - for example ‘Smart’ phones such as BlackBerries and iPhones, WiFi capability - and time management training are aimed at assisting individuals to better cope with the demands placed upon them and the resultant ‘pressure’.
