Work-Related Attitudes in the SEE Region

Abstract

When planning to start a business in a certain area, for example in SEE, one decisive factor of interest is whether the chosen area is characterized by economic growth. As human capital, according to human capital theory, is able to generate growth, productivity will depend to a very high degree on the quality and behaviour of employees. According to Glaser (2004, p. 2), ‘[t]he productive advantage that one area has over another is driven mostly by the people’. As work-related values and attitudes determine the behaviour of employees, this chapter will be concerned with a detailed examination of the characteristic features of these determinants in the context of SEE countries.
