Abstract

No sooner had Schroders begun its activities than others began to follow. Indeed the timing of the early office openings is so close that their exact sequence is difficult to pinpoint (quite a few will claim to have been the first-movers). Otto van der Wyck hired Wolfgang Schaaf and Max Römer to open up CVC for him in Frankfurt, Friedrich von der Groeben paired up with Andrew Richards to initiate 3i Germany, and frenetic activity was stirred up within the Munich Office of Bain & Company, which led to a cross-roads decision on whether to stay committed to consulting or switch paths to private equity.
