Abstract

To use the expression of Simone de Beauvoir, women are still ‘the second sex,’ and mankind is still, well, a man.1 The chapters in this book have, I hope, explored some of the ways in which a male-dominated society still determines the ways in which our organizations are run, the values they hold, the skills they value, and how we work. But it is changing, and some believe the change is about to accelerate. Women’s growing economic and social power is behind this change, along with their expectations and desire to participate in the decision making of this world.
