Abstract

Capitalism is at a tipping point, and consequently there is everywhere an urgent need for change and for sustainable economic solutions. There is no sustainable solution for the planet without Asia. It is hard to discuss ‘Asia’ as a homogeneous unit, since it covers 30 per cent of the Earth’s land surface and is home to almost 4 billion people — 60 per cent of the world’s current population. The region contributes a total GDP of around US$18.5 trillion per year,1 which is 30 per cent of the world’s total.2
