Abstract

Most of the time, I am rather proud of being a professor, but not always. Sometimes, I feel ashamed on behalf of certain colleagues. In an article in the Guardian from January 13, 2010, the philosophy professor Peter Hallward at Middlesex University presents an analysis of Haiti’s problems that puts all the blame for the situation in the country on France, the United States, and the international community in general.1 Together, they have raped the country. During the 40 years that I have dealt with Haiti, I have had to read a lot of nonsense, but Hallward’s article certainly takes the prize.
