Abstract

Science has long wrestled over the certainty of its claims. Can one scientific discovery apply equally to every situation and remain true forever? Are there absolute foundations to knowledge, or does truth depend on who is speaking? In recent years the philosophy of Lakatos (1976), Kuhn (1962) and Feyerabend (1975) has heralded a move away from foundationalism in science, accompanied by the ‘postmodern turn’ originating in the social sciences and humanities. Economics is no exception, even if it has come late to the debate.
