A Step Change Model for Energy

Abstract

There are already people and companies that are interested in changing their habits with regard to energy consumption. Some of them find ways to reduce their energy consumption, through their own interest in the matter. Companies may have substantial resources to invest and pioneers may gain market share or improve profi tability by reducing their energy consumption. Individuals could similarly make efforts to reduce energy consumption or switch to renewable energy sources. Richard Heinberg, author of four books on the peak oil issue, describes how he collects vegetable frying oil from restaurants, and how he uses this to fuel his car. The availability of this type of oil, however, is limited, and this model cannot be used for large-scale energy transformation.
