Abstract

This case study is set in a bespoke dressmaking business in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The business is owned by Matthew, who has run it single-handed for eight years. His office and cutting room are behind his shop, which he keeps open while he works, breaking off to serve any customers who walk in from the street. He enjoys a small walk-in trade selling fashion accessories, hats and a few dresses, but makes his main living from working with a number of long-term clients, mainly large department stores and smaller boutiques in Boston, as well as further afield in Washington DC, New York and New Jersey. Ideally he would like to be able to secure more long-term US business beyond the East Coast region.
